The benefit of a Light-Weight Flywheel is to lower the rotating Flywheel Mass:

thus the Engine Rev’s spontaneously without the loss of concentricity, reaching the power band more quickly, the inverse of the lower rotating Flywheel Mass is to decrease Engine RPM more quickly.

These advantages allow the engine to perform better with quicker gear changes and increased braking force when decelerating.
